Got to Chongqing on Saturday, and found out Beijing-based photographer Matthew Niederhauser was in town as well. Turns out we were staying in the same hostel — his room directly across the hallway from mine. We made it out to Nuts Club to catch the Destruction Tour’s headlining act: Moonless Acheron (暗月冥). I’m not a fan of progressive metal, but I’ll admit, they put on quite a show. Video from the show to come.

While in Changsha, I stayed with photographer friend Eden Chalumeau. He was kind enough to give me some lessons on how to use a remote-triggered external flash. Thanks Eden!

Changsha is a city where everyone knows everyone. Hanging out with the BT4 graffiti crew I met local musicians, DJs, B Boys, a local ultimate frisbee team, skaters, and photographers.

This is how I ended my nights/started my days in Wuhan. On the left is by far my favorite edible in Wuhan: Mi Jiu. A delectable concoction of fermented rice, water, and cane sugar with just enough alcohol to make mornings tolerable. I suggest 3 bowls minimum — at .5 RMB a pop, it’s well worth it.
On the right is the local breakfast favorite: Re Gan Mian. Even if you don’t like it, just chew, smile, and say yum — this dish is a source of local pride. Unfortunately, these dishes are rarely served past 10am.
